Scanner repair: diagnosing problems and getting your scanner fixed
Most document scanner problems aren't breakdowns. Misfeeds, double feeds, streaks and lines on the image are usually fixed with cleaning or new rollers, which you can do yourself in minutes. When a scanner does need repair, the manufacturer's authorized service centers do the work.
Try these first
- Feed problems (misfeeds, double feeds, jams): clean the rollers, then replace them if they're worn; see scanner roller kits.
- Lines or streaks on every page: clean the glass; a line that won't clean off means scratched scanner glass.
- False error messages: dust on the paper sensors is the usual cause.
- Image quality that cleaning doesn't fix can be a worn lamp in older models, or a driver setting.
When it needs repair
We don't repair scanners ourselves, but we can help you diagnose the problem and refer you to an authorized service center for your brand. If your scanner is covered by a manufacturer service plan, the plan's on-site or advance-exchange service is the fastest route; see Fujitsu and Kodak service. To avoid the next breakdown, add a service plan for the models we sell.
Tell us your scanner model and what's happening: call 865-637-8986 or send us the details. If repair costs more than the scanner is worth, we'll recommend a replacement, new or refurbished.
