Scanner cleaning sheets

A scanner cleaning sheet is a sheet you feed through a document scanner like a page of paper. As it travels through, it picks up paper dust, adhesive and toner from the rollers and paper path, which are the usual causes of misfeeds, streaks and false double-feed errors. It takes seconds, and you don't need to open the scanner.

Choosing cleaning sheets

• Sticky cleaning sheets have an adhesive surface that lifts dust and debris from the rollers and the glass.
• Transport cleaning sheets, such as Kodak's, are made for the paper path of high-volume scanners.
• Model-specific sheets, such as Canon's sheet for the DR-X10C, are sized for one scanner.

Sheets, wipes or a full cleaning?

Cleaning sheets are for quick, regular cleaning between full cleanings. Every so often, clean the rollers and glass by hand with lint-free wipes and the cleaner your scanner's maker specifies. Use the manufacturer's cleaner rather than household products, which can damage rollers. If feed problems continue after cleaning, the rollers are probably worn; see scanner roller kits.
