SimpleOCR: free OCR software
SimpleOCR is our free OCR software for Windows. It converts scanned pages and image files into editable text you can use in Word and other applications, and it is free for both personal and commercial use. Hundreds of thousands of people use it.
What SimpleOCR freeware does
- Scans from any TWAIN scanner, or opens image files, and converts the text to an editable document.
- Uses the SimpleOCR engine, or the Tesseract engine for more languages, with language files for about 100 more.
- Has a free companion, SimpleView, a document viewer with basic OCR.
The free version reads machine-printed text and processes one file at a time. It isn't designed for handwriting, batches or complex layouts.
When you need more than free OCR
- Accurate conversion of complex pages to Word, Excel and searchable PDF: ABBYY FineReader PDF or OmniPage.
- Batches of documents that need splitting, naming and indexing: SimpleIndex, which adds ABBYY FineReader OCR in its Professional edition.
